Amazing Works

Do you ever look back on things you have done or said and thought what the heck was I thinking?!?. I am a work in progress. There was a time after I "accepted Jesus" that I felt like it was up to me to help save the world and show everyone how it should be done.  I talked about the grace of God, I studied the grace of God but I did not live my life as if I believed in the grace of God. I took the famous song Amazing Grace and changed the words to show what the song would have said if it was about my life:

Amazing works just look at me
Come see what I have done
I oft have heard and now I know
I do not need the cross

Twas works that helped
my head to swell
And works my pride did grow
How mighty did these works appear
The more to church I went

Consider all the things I do
I teach, I cook, I sing
Twas works that got me where I am
And these will be well known

These works have brought the light to me
My pride doth often swell
A smile I must forever wear
To keep the front alive

When I have worked for many years
And my name is lifted high
I've only a few more years to go
To hear the praise of man

Amazing works just look at me
Come see what I have done
I oft have heard and now I know
I do not need the cross

I am happy to say that the Lord is merciful and has shown me the error of my ways, he has helped me understand the concept of grace on a much deeper level than I have in the past. He has graciously shown me that it is all about Him and not about me. He has let me know that He did fine before I showed up and He will do just fine when I am gone. I am not there yet, as I said before I am a work in progress. I am realizing more and more every day that I can rest in the finished work of Christ. I am not required to do anything to make God love me any more than he does.

I hope we can get the fact that God loves us because of what Christ did for us at the cross, not because of what we do or do not do. It is truly good news.
