Rain Rain Go Away

Have you ever walked outside on a cloudy or rainy day and said "Man I wish the sun were shining!" I do not like cloudy, rainy days. I remember a few years ago I had to take a trip to Boston for a few days. When I boarded the airplane it was cloudy and raining. As we taxied down the runway I could see the rain soaking everything. The baggage guys and the baggage looked like it was getting soaked, the maintenance guys were getting wet, no one looked excited about the weather.

A few minutes later we were in the air. As the plane rose we began to pass through the clouds, they were thick and gray. You could not see anything below and you still could not see the sun, we were surrounded by the gloom of the clouds. However, as the plane continued to climb we broke through the clouds and it was an incredible sight. We were above the clouds and the sun was no long blocked by anything. It was shining so bright I almost needed to pull the shade down.

As I thought about this riding to work this morning in the rain, I realized that the sun is always shining, the sun is always there. I know I am stating the obvious to some of you but there are times when I think we forget that. We wonder, where is the sun. It's right where it always is, 92,955,887.6 miles from the earth. There are clouds that move in and block the sun but it is still there, still shining and still burning at 9941 degrees.

I say all of this to point out that when we go through cloudy days internally, when we feel as though life is cloudy and rainy, when we say where is God, he is right where he always is. He is reining and ruling from his throne.

Psalm 33: 13 From heaven the LORD looks down
and sees all mankind;
14 from his dwelling place he watches
all who live on earth—
15 he who forms the hearts of all,
who considers everything they do.
16 No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.

He has always been on his throne and he will always be on his throne:

Revelation 4: 9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever.

Revelation 22: 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

When the clouds of life roll in and the days seem to get darker and darker, we have to remind ourselves that the Son is still shining and God is still in control. He has not forgotten us, he has not left us, he is perfecting us, he is refining us, he is loving us. There are times when we will look around and see nothing but clouds but  try to remember some of these verses that teach us that God is and always will be in complete control.
